The Kaitangata of Rangitoto Island regarded many of their tinctures a secret between themselves and the gods. Only through exhaustive research, along with trial and error, were Lord Baltimore's men able to discover but a simple few.
The Signature
Our signature cocktail started as our wedding unity cocktail, created by Joby Bednar for our special day. Designed as two separate drinks — one representing each of us — then mixed together to unify our love. Below is the original version. It has since been reformulated to mirror our changed palates. The new recipe will remain a mystery much like the Kaitangata tribe.
Shake with ice and strain into an old fashioned glass. Garnish with an eyeball made from a lychee and blueberry.
Original recipe by Joby Bednar. Current reformulation remains the secret of the Kaitangata.
Further Discoveries
There are no bulls on this small, volcanic island, but there is nothing like running from a lava flow to make one feel alive. A Rangitoto riff on the Hemingway Daiquiri — Cana Brava replaces the Havana Club, Caffo Mezzodì stands in for grapefruit juice.
Garnish with a singed pineapple frond.
*Note: pineapple fronds pop when singed. Singe wisely.
A lost sailor, washed up on shore, mixed the last of his rum with a shaman's potion. Was he driven mad? Only one way to find out.
Shake with ice, strain into coupe glass. Garnish with poisonous mint leaf — regular mint if poisonous is out of season.
A refinement of the famous Saturn recipe, using a combination of falernum and gin that give a completely galactic experience. This is not a blended drink.
Shake with ice, double strain into a chilled coupe. The Barr Hill Tomcat gin is also excellent. The rings are optional, but add considerable class.
